I should have known that this week would be prime for "Why I Love 6th Graders" material. And sure enough today I came home with two funnies. Again remember that sometimes funny in the classroom may not translate to funny on the blog...but I still want to record them for posterity!
Funny #1
Tomorrow is a big chapter test so today we are playing a quiz review game. One young lady in the room kept raising her hand super fast and getting the question right. A few of the guys sitting around her were getting frustrated. (What is it about the male genetic make up and competitiveness? I seriously had to give a lecture on being a good sport and not a sore loser. I explained that it was just a review game and there were NO PRIZES OR TROPHIES TO BE WON!) But anyway one of the boys said-
"What's that word when you can predict whats gonna happen in the future because I think Abby is like that...PSYCHO?!!"
I said, "I think you mean PSYCHIC."

Funny #2
In my reading class, I am reading the book The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler aloud to them. They seem to be enjoying it. So today as I am reading this passage...
Interest in the marble piece arises from the unusual circumstances attending its acquisition by the museum and from the belief that it may be the work of the Italian Renaissance master, Michelangelo. If...
Before I could say another word, Dalton gasped and said excitedly,
" Oh...Oh...isn't that one of the Ninja Turtles?"
Condescendingly I said,
"No, dear, he was a famous Italian painter"
To which he replied smugly,
"Artist by day, turtle by night, REMEMBER??"
Oh that boy makes me laugh every day.
One day he wanted to giggle at my pronunciation of the planet URanus. I told him to grow up that he was a sixth grader now. He said-it's okay Mrs. Cole, I still laugh when someone says duty or duties. So I giggled a little and he said- Go ahead and embrace your inner child Mrs. Cole!
